"Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown." Luke 8:8a (NIV)
According to a recent Christian study, the average person has to be witnessed to eight times before he or she gives in to the conviction of the Holy Spirit. That's eight seeds, with only one taking root. To some of us, that seems like a waste of seeds. But, then, just think back on how many times we heard the Word before we prayed the sinner's prayer. It took more than eight for God to finally get me to give in. How about you?
Yet, we get frustrated when we step out on faith and witness to our friends or loved ones and nothing happens. We think we're doing something wrong or we just aren't called to spread the seeds for God. We think that our calling could be in another ministry. We may be right, but that shouldn't keep us from sowing.
And sowing goes far beyond direct witnessing to the lost. It encompasses a person's entire life. A good witness for Christ not only speaks the necessary words; he or she lives the life necessary to set an example of Christian living. The life of a good witness, although not perfect, must be as close to perfect as is humanly possible. You know, talk the talk and walk the walk, even behind closed doors. Tough assignment, isn't it?
No, it's not really that tough. It's just a matter of realizing that Jesus is with us 24/7, and that we are sowing His seeds simply by striving for His perfection.
Challenge: Let your life sow seeds for Jesus.
