Q: I want to trust God to take care of me, whatever the situation, but I’m having a hard time. I want to obey whatever God wants me to do, but at the same time I have my own feelings about what I want. I’m worried about making the right decision. What if I’m letting my own feelings override God’s will for me?
A: Before we talk about what you can do, let’s talk about what God can do.
God is perfect. But just because He’s perfect, He doesn’t expect us to be perfect. He knows we’ll make mistakes, even when we don’t intend to.
God is also all-powerful. We are rather limited. Just because we can’t see how God could fix a mistake doesn’t mean He can’t or won’t.
The bottom line is: God is big enough to be able to cover us when we make mistakes. He might not solve things the way we want or absolve us of blame, but it’s not going to completely damage your relationship with Him when you disobey or screw up. He is big enough to forgive us and fix things, even though we couldn’t do that ourselves.
You should still go to God in prayer before making decisions, but you shouldn’t fear making a bad decision. God knows your heart and your desire to submit to His will, and He also knows your weaknesses and your ability (or lack of it) to trust Him. He’s not going to ruin the rest of your life because you made a mistake.
Get others to pray for you. Spend some quality time asking God to mold your heart. Then walk forward, continuing to seek His will for you, knowing God will continue to take care of you no matter how many wrong paths you take. He’ll eventually bring you to where He wants you to go.
