Devo thoughts from Rebecca Gomez
"For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings."
When the young girl from our youth group came to us (me and my husband) to tell us that she was pregnant, our hearts broke for her. We spent the afternoon with her and her boyfriend as a way to show our support and compassion for them. While we were disappointed in the choices they had made which led to the situation, we knew that they would need all the support they could get.
Most of you would probably say that was good thing for us to do. But you wanna know something? God isn't all that interested in the "good works" we do. He's interested in what is on the inside; he works from the inside out. We can serve and serve and serve until we pass out, but if our hearts are not right with God, it doesn't matter all that much.
An attitude of mercy, of kindness and compassion, stems from our relationship with God. If our hearts are right with God, then we will have a natural yearning to step up and help those who are suffering.
