Real Life Q&A with Camy Tang

February 2006

Q: How do I know the will of God? I don't hear Him talking to me or anything.

A: You just asked the million-dollar question. I've often wished I could be like those Old Testament dudes who heard God speaking loud and clear. I mean, why doesn't the Big Man talk in a loud booming voice to His people? It would make things a lot easier. But then I realize--would it really make His people listen?

See, there's the point. It's one thing to want the will of God--but are you really listening to Him? Or waiting to hear the answer you want to hear?

So first off, examine your heart. Lay it all out, baby. Is there anything you're not confessing to God? Is there anything you're not giving up control to Him? Cuz God wants people who are completely open, honest, and authentic with Him. And if you don't trust Him 100%, then why should He answer you?

Then ask for His will, for what His answer is to your question. The key here is to be willing to accept His answer, no matter what it is--even if it's not what you want. Even if He asks you to do something you're not crazy about. Even if He asks you do to something wild and frightening. Be willing.

God likes that willingness. That's complete trust in Him, and love for Him, and confidence in His plans for you.

God will answer. It might be a deep-set knowing, down in your heart, where you don't understand how you know, but you know. It might be the words of a friend or a parent or a youth leader. Or maybe some passage in the Bible will jump right out and smack you upside the head.

God will answer, if your heart is willing to hear.
