Devotional: What Are You Looking At?

by Pamela James

The lazy days of summer are over. You are on the brink of the hustle and bustle of the new school year. How are you viewing this venture?

Maybe you are the type who bought your school supplies ages ago and have them in the backpack by the front door. It could be you are gripped with terror at the thought of once again facing your peers. Most likely you are somewhere in the middle of those two extremes and hoping for the best school year ever.

So, what are you looking at? Who is your center? Who is walking beside you all the way through all ups and downs a year can hold?

It's easy, when the schedule fills up, to push God farther and farther away from the center of our lives. We may start to get up late and shorten our personal worship time until we are mumbling a prayer as we inhale a cereal bar.

Then it happens. Your life feels like it is overwhelming. You wonder how you will ever meet all your obligations and make good grades. If you don't catch it before then, let this be your red flag. Take a deep breathe, refocus, and find your way back to your center. His arms are open wide to receive you.

Psalms 31:3 For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me and guide me. (King James Version)

What are you looking at? Jesus!
