Devotional: Commit to Be More Holy

by Earl Parsons

But your heart must be fully committed to the Lord our God, to live by His decrees and obey His commands, as at this time. 1 Kings 8:61

What does it mean to be fully committed? To me, it means being willing to sacrifice everything for one cause. This means concentrating all of one’s energy on fulfilling that commitment, whatever it may be.

But, in order to be fully committed, a person has to know the ramifications of the commitment. How will the sacrifices made contrast to the benefits reaped? In other words, will the entire sacrifice be worthwhile?

Well, when we consider the total package that God has prepared for those who do His will, we’d have to say that the benefits far outweigh the sacrifice. Not only do we get eternal life, we also get rewarded based on the works that we do. The more we do for Him while we live, the bigger our rewards will be in heaven. It’s that store up your treasures thing.

Doing works, however, is not the only part of a commitment. Living the life also must be included. This entails learning and living by the decrees God has set down and obeying His every command. This can be a tough assignment, considering that the entire world is against the Godly lifestyle. And those who attempt to live life by His rules are often ridiculed and put down. Nevertheless, our obedience will be blessed.

Although we may never attain a full commitment to God, we should try our best to gain His favor.

Challenge: Up your commitment level this year.
